TRAIL RUNNING & POWER HIKING TOURS

Hike with purposeexplore with passion

Trail running is a type of all-weather running that takes place on outdoor trails, often in mountainous terrain and other times involves significant ascents and descents.

Power hiking is simply an intensified form of hiking that is utilized by trail runners when covering mountainous terrain. Instead of attempting to run or jog on the uphills of a course, they will power hike to conserve energy but still maintain a steady pace.

CHORA SFAKION-ANOPOLI-LOYTRO

Magnificent ascent from the sea and descent from the highlands!

Starting from Chora Sfakion and crossing the gorge-path of Anopoli, a fantastic descent to the small car-free coastal village of Loutro. Here there are no big hotels with swimming pools, crowded restaurants and beaches, but you will certainly not have difficulty finding options for food as well as for coffee and drinks as they will also serve you in the taverns. Before the end of the circular walk, situated in a wonderful spot at the foot of a cliff, Sweet Water Beach is a welcoming place for a swimming break.

All in all, a great combination for a very interesting day trip.

SAMARIA GORGE

Classic tour of one of Europe's largest gorges The Samaria Gorge is an absolute "must"

From the plateau of Omalos, 1200m, in the center of the White Mountains. An alpine path of 16 kilometers, very steep at the beginning, descends and heads towards the Libyan Sea. Along the way you are in the wonderful pine and cypress forest. There live the wild goats of Crete, the Kri-Kri, but also many other species of animals that are not found anywhere else and 22 springs with drinking water. What is perhaps the most impressive it’s the narrowest point called "Doors" - just before the exit - with a width of 3 meters. The rocks there reach a height of 600 meters and the scenery is breathtaking!

The estimated time for the crossing is 6 hours. Experienced walkers can reach Ag.Roumeli in 5 hours without taking long breaks.

In the case of fast hiking, the time is calculated at approximately 4 hours without stops.

ARADENA GORGE

The gorge of Aradena is definitely one of the best in western Crete.

From the abandoned village of Aradena to Marmara beach, a difficult alpine path is crossed. Starting from the steel bridge built in 1986, 138 meters above the ground, you can enjoy an amazing view of the gorge. A cruciform church, well worth seeing, is one of the few buildings still standing in the once large mountain village. This adventurous ride ends with a panoramic descent that takes you to the Libyan Sea.

AGIA IRINI GORGE

Compared to the impressive gorges of Samaria and Aradena, the gorge of Agia Irini seems rather modest.

Nevertheless, the gorge, with its jungle-like vegetation at the top and many bottlenecks downstream, is indeed very attractive to the walker. The gorge can be walked already in April, when the Samaria gorge is still closed.

IMBROS GORGE

If you are walking on Crete in early spring and the Samaria Gorge is still closed, you can still be well served with the Imbros Gorge as an alternative. The Imbros Gorge, also known as 'Little Samaria, is visited frequently just like her famous sister. With 7km in length, the gorge is much shorter which makes walking through less tiring. The gorge has a spectacular narrow section where you can touch both sides of the gorge at the same time when you spread your arms out!

SIRIKARI GORGE

The wide gorge at Sirikari presents an opportunity for a very pleasant walk This route is most obliging to anyone who wishes to ramble freely without constant path-finding, scrambling over boulders or crossing over stream beds via slippery fords. In the centre of the gorge there is an idyllic rest area, an excursion into the ancient site of Polyrinia makes for a fine alternative route.

#7 Power Hiking Tour

KOURTALIOTIKO GORGE

The Kourtaliotis River originates at an altitude of 500m. Its length reaches approximately 7 km, the gorge of the same name flows through it and forms Lake Preveli just before it empties on the southern coast into the Libyan Sea. In several places the crossing is particularly demanding, as when the passages narrow the water flows with great momentum.

Its imposing relief, combined with the river that crosses it, make its hike an unrepeatable experience.

Imbros and Asfendoutwo small gorges…a lot of FUN !!!

For hikers who have the question of which of the two canyons they should cross first, we have the answer: Both!!! They are fairly easy, well-marked and of the same length. More than three hours of running between two superb gorges and then swimming at Frangocastello.

MESKLA GORGE

The Sarakina gorge in the village of Meskla is one of the smallest in Crete but one of the most impressive natural sculptures. It is literally hidden in a uniquely beautiful forest of cypresses and plane trees.

The course of the path is circular and requires a little more than two hours for the whole circle.

It is very nice, after the gorge, to walk further up the village of Zourva

The path starts from the village and ends at the same point.
